WOODLAND PARK, NJ - John P. Holland Charter School (JPHCS) held its Annual Father’s March on Tuesday, an event that encourages father figures to take an active role in their children's education and school community. The event, which coincided with the school's opening day, garnered strong support from prominent community leaders, including Mayor Andre Sayegh and Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly.
Also speaking was William Raheem Smallwood, Director of Sankofa Leadership Academy whose speech focused on the legacy that fathers leave behind and the responsibilities they carry as role models. “We need you,” Smallwood said, emphasizing the impact fathers have not only on their own children but on the broader community.
Wimberly urged the fathersin attendance to be consistent examples for their children. “Be an example,” Wimberly advised. “There are no do-overs.”
“You are the driving force in your child’s life,” Sayegh said, encouraging them to continue dedicating time and attention to their children and families.
JPHCS Principal for grades 3-8, Dr. Heru Keonte, expressed his gratitude for the strong turnout from community leaders and families alike.
"We are thrilled to see such robust participation from our community leaders and family members,” Keonte said. “The Annual Father’s March serves as a powerful reminder of the vital role that fathers and male mentors play in shaping the future of our students. Keep showing up.”
